While researching my topic, I got to get inside the mind of a teacher and really see how it would be. Yes, I'm not going to go through the exact same things that they are or did but it's nice to read about it and see how it is. I am just starting this journey into what I'm wanting to do for the rest of my life and it's like I'm jumping in without being able to see the bottom because this is only the 4th class I've taken for it. This class seems like it's ten steps ahead of my plans because I have no clue where I'm going to teach, what grade I will teach or even how I will teach.
I have a certain game plan of what I won't do and things I won't tolerate but that isn't the same as know what I will do. Will I allow my students to sit wherever they want? Will they need to ask to use the restroom or just get up and take the pass with them; one at a time of course. How strict or lenient will I be? I'm a very tough nanny but most of the children I watch are younger and need a lot of boundaries to follow. Kids respect authority and learn to live with the idea of following directions the sooner it's required. There is no going back on a decision that's already been made, one cannot be wishy-washy with children. Or ever.
I think you will find what you are looking for as you develop an understanding of the teaching world, and with children. I have 4 children and they are all different. My 2 oldest were homeschooled and my 2 youngest are public school. There was a lot of consistency and strict boundaries at home and I loved it, my 2 youngest strived to have more social lives than home lives. Public school has been a blessing to them also. My daughter complains about her teacher being too strict but I love it. She works harder to complete her homework and does better in the classroom. My daughter is no angel and will never be, but her teacher took the time to care and called me during class hours and always left notes on homework. I admire a teacher who follows through and is consistent with all the kids.
ReplyDeleteI wish you good luck on your journey
Hola Fe
ReplyDeleteLove the cat. I am also wanting to become a teacher. I have been a preschool teacher but I also understand that will be night and day. I am in agreement with you as to certain worries with regards to the advancement of the class. I also feel like its ahead of where I need to be, but slowly I am beginning to comprehend and relate things. I as well not sure about grade level but nonetheless when the time comes things will fall into place. Classroom management will be something that no class will teach you because you will develop it once you start your teaching career.
Adios

Hi Faith,
ReplyDeleteFirst of all I love your name. The kitten is great too! I like the way you decided to get inside the mind of a teacher. I like the way you are thinking forward, and asking yourself questions that address the future. Develop your own style and you will then realize what your deepest desires and you will teach well and be successful. Don't give up!
